Blood Is Sleeping While Standing Still [Terayama, first edition]

$100.00

„Blood Is Sleeping While Standing Still” is a script book of a play written by Shuji Terayama when he was 23 years old.
Originally it was published in parts by Bungakukai literary magazine in 1960.
Terayama refers to this work as his "virgin play".

With the protests against the United States–Japan Security Treaty in background, this play vividly depicts the inner conflicts and anger of young people.

Title of this play was born from Terayama’s poem:
「There is blood flowing in every single tree,
and there the blood is sleeping while standing still.」
